Europe House movie night – Children of Dictatorship

“Children of Dictatorship”, an autobiographical documentary on the lives of four Albanian children born and raised in communist prisons and internment camps between 1945-1990, brought together historians, civil society, youth as well as an international audience at Europe House last evening.

The documentary brings Alma Liço, Ridvana Mena, Lurian Mena and Simon Mirakaj back to the places where they lived as “enemies of the people”. Their life stories as politically prosecuted in communist Albania were shared and discussed following the screening of the documentary.

“Children of Dictatorship is a valuable opportunity to give voice to the stories of the people that suffered during the communist period so that the younger generations learn about our recent past. This must be reflected in the school activities as well,” Jonila Godole of the Institute for Democracy, Media and Culture (IDMC) said.

Children of Dictatorship is directed by Besnik Bisha and produced by the IDMC with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS).
