Ambassador Soreca hands over EU medical aid to Albania

EU Ambassador Luigi Soreca delivered to the Albanian Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu the third part of EU’s assistance to Albania for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.
  • 100 fully-equipped ICU beds
  • 30 electrocardiogram appliances
  • 20 surgical electrical aspirators
  • 75 manual resuscitators
  • other equipment to treat severe cases.
“The EU continues to be very close to the Albanian people in moments of need. Top-standard medical equipment is available to fight against Covid-19 crisis. But it is essential to respect the rules of social distancing. We will overcome this crisis together,” said EU Ambassador Luigi Soreca.
The first two deliveries took place in May and earlier this week and consisted of personal protective equipment and supply against COVID-19, fully-equipped life-safe ambulances and other specialized equipment and devices for the intensive care units. The overall commitment of the EU for Albania in the fight against COVID-19 is EUR 4million for medical equipment and almost EUR 50 million for social protection and support as well as for economic recovery.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, UNOPS has worked closely with the EU Delegation in Albania to secure these vital equipment for the Albanian health care system.
